http://www.suntint.com/ If you're looking for the best heat reducing tint this is the place. From clear to dark tint their product reflects more heat than any other. I am amazed at how much colder I can get the a/c just by keeping out the Sun's heat.

I used Sun Busters and have been happy with it. Three years later and no peeling or obvious warping.

One place and one place only, you’ll have to take a little drive south but I highly recommend Sals House of Tint in San Marcos. Sal and his wife are cool as f@*k and he’s super efficient.

I used Mother's window tint and alarm on South Lamar, did a good job at a fair price.

Either Mothers on South Lamar (I’ve used them a few rimes and they’ve always done a good job) or Sun Tint up off 290 (the Volvo dealership nearby uses them so they must be pretty decent).

SunBusters: https://www.yelp.com/biz/sunbusters-window-tinting-austin-5 - I've used them a few times over the years. They've always done a great job. I get the ceramic usually (second from top of the line I think).

https://www.tintworld.com They have a computer controlled machine that cuts the film to exactly the right size for each window based on what car you have. Speeds installation time and really helps with quality and longevity. Plus they have good SunTek brand films there.

Check out binswanger glass. I used them when I broke a window pane at my house. Repair shops wanted at least $150 and I ended up buying the pane from them for $10. Super nice people

Looking for an HVAC Company in Austin that does ADU assessments. AC Unit, insulation, ducts, windows, etc. I've searched the Google. Anyone have any recommendations?
designstudiomodern replied:
I'm confused as to what you are actually asking. Are you trying to assess the feasibility of turning an existing garage/shed space into am ADU? Because if so you need far more than just an HVAC company. They're going to only be familiar with energy code, and there is FAR mare info you're going to need to provide in order to turn something into a habitable unit (bathroom, kitchenette, egress, etc.)
JohnGillnitz replied:
I've used City Mechanical for years. Kept my old unit kicking along until I finally had to replace the whole thing. Which they did well for a fair price. They are a locally owned family business. (512) 670-9021

i recommended my contractor before but no more - 3-4 years after all the ducts, weather sealing and insulation were installed i'm finding a lot of shabby work. I did get the rebate back then, which pretty much required a licensed contractor for COA to inspect and approve the work. But now I know so much more about home renovation I wish I did it myself [maybe not the ducts, huge PIA]. Would have been better, cheaper to do insulation and weather sealing on my own, but no official ECAD, which is required during a sale here in Austin.
I'm currently doing my own windows, and partial siding replacement. I didn't want to, but 4 of the 5 window quotes would not even entertain the price of actually doing an install with a nail fin [it assures a weather seal vs. cutting old ones out and sealing in news ones with foam]. Doing it the right way you need to hire a general contractor or carpenter, not a window company that does the whole house in a day and leaves the trim/siding in poor condition.
And the craftsmanship of vinyl windows is pretty disappointing, checked several manufacturers and they are all similar. Code wise, there is virtually no other option to vinyl except ridiculously expensive custom metal or wood which is terrible in Texas heat.
can't help on ADU, never did it before.
