It's the secondary heat exchanger, if it's the hot water part. If it's blocked you can strip out and replace, probably a few hundred quid. If it's the main heat exchanger? Your as well changing the boiler. I appreciate at this time of year replacing a boiler wasn't on top of your list but if you can afford, look at Worcester Bosch or Vaillant, then Baxi and the new Ideal boilers are far superior to the older models. Some boilers will offer a 7yr warranty. Best prices available are Ultimate Discount (mr central heating) in Hillington Glasgow. Try and avoid Ariston, Glow worm, Sime. Vokera are ok but it's just your luck if you get a decent one as they tend to require parts pretty often. I'm happy to offer any advice if you require it. I'm still Gas Safe Registered but it's for Commercial systems.

Hi Andrew/Andrea I'm not Gas Safe Registered for Domestic anymore. The Ideal Isar/Icos boilers were notoriously unreliable boilers and I've changed dozens of circuit boards as this was a common fault. Not sure yours is this style but I know some on that estate were. You'll be better calling W.Wilson in Fintry or Muir in Strathblane for Domestic gas boilers.

There's a big fella who works for Ledi Plumbing stays in Buchlyvie but I don't know how to get in touch. After 6 attempts in our house by others, he found and sussed the issue in about 25 seconds, no issues since.
