As far as I understand, Cape Town has quite a few vegan restaurants. Check vegansa.co.za :)

Thank you all so much for your tips! Last time we were out there I was so amazed at the range of fresh produce available at stores so we will definitely make the most of those options to top up our veggies from the restaurants. We assumed we may have to be patient with servers while in restaurants, it's a similar situation here but we've got used to asking all the questions so we'll just go for it. We had a few things on our list like Earthmother and Chilliplum in Durban. Great to know there are some coffee options, Daniel Oaks have you been to Cafe Jiran in Durbs? When we were out there last it was literally our favourite coffee place, do you know if they have milk alternatives? Thanks again:)

Hey - I've not actually been to Cafe Jiran though I've heard of it. Generally though, I've found eateries are *much* more flexible than English ones and don't make you feel like a pain in the arse for ordering off-menu:-)

Hi, we stay in George, we eat at Simply Asia in the Garden Route Mall. Duttons Cove in Heroldsbay have an awesome butternut & beetroot salad and all the Spurs, Steers (the best of the 3 I'll say) and Wimpy chains have veggy burgers (just ask without cheese). You can also have Panarottis make you their vegetarian pizza without cheese or have a plate of fries at any other place. I've heard that Mugg & Bean also have an option or 2 but don't know what they are. Enjoy your visit

Durban also has Conscious Cafe in Hillcrest.

Mugg&Bean has great vegan options, as well as Simply Asia. Other places have great vegetarian options, so just ask to remove the dairy products.

Cape Town has an excellent vegan restaurant Plant, Leafy greens is in Johannesburg and Chilliplum is in Durban. These restaurants have really tasty food. The chain restaurant Mugg and Bean always has soya milk available. What my husband and I always do is take a creamer with wherever we go just in case there is no soya available. Natures choice Swiss milk powder is a great vegan choice. If you decide to stay close to Ballito, La Piazza has an awesome chef and if you give him a little notice he will sort you out with an awesome 3 course meal.. Otherwise we have found that you have to be very patient when explaining that you do not eat anything that comes from an animal. Most waitstaff do not understand that this includes, butter, cream, eggs - and amazingly some chefs do not even understand the concept of vegan food. You are free to message me if you want anymore information. Enjoy our country

Bocca Dolce just outside Plettenberg Bay does a divine vegan buffet lunch on weekends! George and Wilderness I haven't found anywhere yet, one has to ask for substitutions.
