Stay on the BTS(Skytrain) line so you can get around the city without getting stuck in traffic. There are many outdoor markets during weekends. An all day pass for the Chao Phraya river boat will get you to many good spots, such as The Grand Palace and the Wat with the golden laying Buddha. Your first time in BKK you might also like a night on Khaosan Road. You might want to take a tour to Ayutthaya.
Jason T. replied:
If you stay on Khaosan road you will be far away from the BTS line. Nasa Vegas is 500THB and connected to the BTS line by the Airport Link. Personally I would visit Khoasan and not stay there. Maybe stay there for 1 night...
