OK, to follow up with my looking for a car, what is the best priced insurance company in the area? Thank you all who suggested places to get a decently used car, now I'm...

Insurance rates are hugely based on **you**, not the company. Well, some carriers are cheaper than others, some are more expensive, of course.... I agree with the comment about finding an independent agent and let them shop for the best plan for you. Personally, I would **never** go with the "cheapest" insurance company. Sure, that's great when you're paying premiums but if you ever have to file a claim, that cheapness may come back to bite you in the ass.
Going back to the independent agent route, most won't push you to the low-end carriers unless there's little choice (for you or them). When I switched a number of years ago, I went to Matulka in Beavercreek and they offered (3) carriers - one low-cost carrier that I'd never heard of, Erie, and another carrier (don't remember that one either). We went with Erie and still have them today....

If you're military (or even family of military within their requirements) take a look at USAA. Since they are non-profit, they disburse their excess holdings back to members every December (and have a larger "subscriber savings account" that accumulates and disburses if you ever leave them). With any insurance, the cost is mostly "driven" by the driver and the chosen vehicle.

Find yourself a local independent agent. They will do the shopping for you.
