Troutbeck Village Shop and Tearoom near Windermere. Delicious cakes and great coffee. The tearooms are closed for a while but you can still get takeaway drinks and cake - benches outside with fantastic views! See their facebook page or website

Castle Terrace Restaurant is probably the best in town at the moment, but it's pretty expensive and usually fully booked.Il Castello next door to that one is a good value traditional Italian Restaurant. We're actually going there on Friday!I know the boss man there pretty well,so if you go there tell him you're my nephew -in-law!Failing these Whighams, off Charlotte Square,Brown's and Centotre both in George Street,Vittorias on the Bridge and Pizza Express, both on George IV Bridge are also OK.
