Does anyone remember Pizitz clothing stores? My grandmother had a restaurant downtown and my dad and I went to the downtown Pizitz and they had tons of decorated...
Richard R. replied:
Pizitz was much more than a clothing store. Toys, Sporting Goods, Furniture, Bakery; and in some of the suburban stores - automotive/tire shops. I could eat a pound of their "Elephant Ear" pastries even as we speak.
Jane G. replied:
Loved Pizitz. They use to have block parties with bands in the summer.

Some have mentioned the Christmas windows, but they also had a Santa Land type of display on the 6 th floor. It covered about half of the floor when you included Santa's chair. It was a animated display of wonder, it was sad when it down sized to just Santa. The down town store was wonderful. I have seen reports that there are plans for the store, I hope so!
Gayla R. replied:
Used to love that store...especially downtown...and we always used Pizitz Bake Shops!!!!
Cecilia K. replied:
I worked at the Roebuck store, the Pizitz Bake Shop and then Downtown in data processing in the late '70's and early 80's. (Then I went to Parisian - Corporate HQ where I worked for almost 16 years.
Psyche U. replied:
Yes my Momma and I would eat lunch their sometimes when we went 'downtown' for a day of shopping. There were several other places we would eat as well. Joy Youngs. I can't remember if Burger Phillips had a restaurant or not. Loved Birmingham Trunk. Such wonderful memories with Momma...a different time.
I worked at Pizitz at Brookwood Mall one summer during college. Later became McRaes and then Rich's and now Macy's.

When Mrs. Pizitz got older my Mother use to stay with her. She lived in a condo around the curve from the old John Carroll High School on Highland Av. Very nice lady
Pat C. replied:
I remember looking forward to coming downtown on the bus after school every year at Christmas time and waiting on my mother to get off work at WT Grants on 2 nd Ave so we could go to see the beautiful animated Christmas scene windows at Pizitz and Loveman's. Years later, my children both got to have breakfast with Santa at the Pizitz Tea Room before they closed the store.
Chris W. replied:
She wrapped gifts and gave out boxes . I would walk to the shopping center and she would take me to Johnny Rays for a bbq and a slice of lemon pie.
