HVAC recommendations? My furnace just stopped working.
Michael S. replied:
I can recommend a very knowledgeable and super nice guy that's affordable. But as of last winter, he's not as quick or mobile as he used to be because of a back surgery but he was training some new guys to fill in for him. AMF Mechanical301.627.1700 Mark is the owner and brain of the operation. But if he can't do it, he'll recommend someone who can.

ARS out of Laurel has been fantastic for us. We went through several other HVAC companies before ARS came to the rescue. https://www.arsofmaryland.com/

then if its a pilot type furnace you turn the gas valve to the pilot position get a long necked butain lighter if it will reach, if not tape a wood match to the end of a pc of coathanger or such, light match and stick it in next to the pilot, depress the red gas valve while its in the pilot position and hold it in till pilot lights. CONTINUE holding it in a couple minutes to allow the pilot flame to heat up the thermo couple thats right next to it then leave to of the valve.. if it stays lit turn the valve back to run position and your done. it it goes back out when you release valve, retry quickly while thermo couples still warm. If it still goes out you have a faulty thermo couple. easy to replace yourself. Im sure there are a ton of videos or instructional pages online as to replacing it. If this is a newer furnace that uses an electrical glow igniter rather than a pilot then it will only glow when heat is being called for by the thermostat. turn thermostat up above room temp ( 80 ) look in at the igniter. looks like this http://www.hamiltonhomeproducts.com/content/images/thumbs/0000762_hsi_409_furnace_igniter_hot_surface_300.jpeg if its not glowing after a couple minutes its likely died. they crack sometimes. turn furnace power off. remove it and get a new one. take old one with you and furnace make model etc. videos on doing this online as well

Yes to Air Conditioning Service. I used Maynard Fixturecraft for about 12 years for rental properties around Nashville when I finally had to look elsewhere due to price. They are good, but I found them expensive. Air conditioning service has done work on 14 units for me last year and it was done well, quickly, and fair pricing.
Shaefer S. replied:
MJ Frick went over and beyond when our heater went out during the snow week!! They searched and found the motor needed and had us fixed the same day....(the other companies we called either weren't out driving that day or couldn't get the part until the following week). ...plus they worked with our home warranty company to get us reimbursed. Highly recommend!!!
Rick P. replied:
Maynard Fixturecraft. Used them for 12 years on both houses for bi annual maintenance and actually replacing the upstairs unit. Talk to Mike and tell him i sent you.
