Just looking for a bit of advice. I'm a fully qualified teacher hoping to move into outdoor education. I have experience leading d of e at school and lots of...

After having taught in main stream education for eight years, I did what you are thinking about doing, 15 years ago, I went to Plas Menai in North Wales and took part in a trainee instructor course, I was already an ML (summer) and like you did D of E. I came away from the course with DI, Start Windsurfing Instructor and the old level 1 kayak coach qualification plus a lot of experience with the sea i.e. Day Skipper practical and Yacht-master theory . It really depends on what your motivation for leaving teaching is? PM me if you want a more candid view.

Hello, I really recommend Dave's instructor training program, you'll get loads of experience and the qualifications your after too, and he takes everyone's training personally, he's also an ex-teacher! I did it last year and came away with SPA , ML and level 2 watersports, and had an awesome time :) everybody achieves a lot more than they expect on his courses and gets a good job at the end! The main one starts in September too. Hope that helps, http://www.outdoorinstructortrainingcourse.co.uk/

Plas Pencelli (Brecon Beacons) run a trainee scheme. Tirabad (same area ) used to too. As did Trewern (Hay on Wye).

As a teacher, I'd recommend going for an LEA centre. They're the most likely to maximise your skills. Arthog, for instance, is great: http://www.telford.gov.uk/aoec/contact
Ben W. replied:
Hi Mega, I wouldn't do an apprenticeship as you will be taking a massive pay. If you can afford it do an intense outdoor instructor scheme! An LEA centre is a good shout. Join a few clubs with different disciplines you'll get experience and maybe cheaper courses.

Went yesterday to De Vere Tortworth, lovely spa (incl. Sauna & steam room), really lovely! Cadbury is great too! Both lunch options not the most gourmet but still nice.
