I bought this from Jessops Horsham and love it. Very rarely get my SLR and all of its lenses out of its case anymore. http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/Compact%20Digital%20Cameras/products/Panasonic/Lumix%20DMC-FZ200%20Digital%20Bridge%20Camera%20-86308/Show.html

www.parkcameras.co.uk in burgess hill by far the best source of knowledge round here. If buy online watch out for websites not based in the uk. Your warranty won't be valid and it's a nightmare for returns if anything goes wrong.

Or go to Park Cameras in Burgess Hill. Massive shop with loads of experts.

Nikon D3200 is a good camera to start with

Nikon Coolpix have some very good nearly-DSLR cameras, like the CoolPix L810, which you can pick up for about £100!

Have a look at www.camerapricebuster.co.uk once you know what you would like. My husband runs this site specifically comparing prices for cameras.

I started out with a Canon 350D (also for sale with a lens and bits if anyone is interested) which is a great starter dslr as its simple and takes a great picture, but have just upgraded to a Canon 100D which is 18 mp and a fantastic bit of kit. Don't get confused with the 1100D which is Canons starter DSLR, the 100D's is quite a bit more acomplished, in that it has a lot of the abilities of the 600 & 700D but in a much smaller body. It's a really compact SLR, and is a fantastic bit of kit. Bit of a tip if you are looking for a bargain, look for the currys & pcworld clearance shop on ebay. We got the 100D with a lens etc for £350 delivered and all it had was an opened box which is why it was reduced. http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/currys_pcworld

As predicted everyone is raving about Canon. I have a Sony Alpha. It is light, easy to use and you get a tone more features for your money than Canon SLRs. It is also very clearly labeled and the menu explains what each term means as you go along, where as Canon assume you know everything. This Sony A65 has a 24 mp sensor and shoots up to 10 frames per second for starters - http://ow.ly/ssGLq

spent ages looking round before deciding on Canon 500D - i can highly recommend you pop to a proper camera shop before deciding. Park Cameras in Burgess hill - i didnt buy camera from them but have bought quite a few other things. Its likely that most people will suggest either Canon or Nikon - at the end of the day its what feels better for you - hence i suggest you pop to the shop i mentioned. http://www.parkcameras.com/

The Canon EOS range are brilliant. We have the 1100D but this was about 2 years ago. Park Cameras in Burgess Hill are brilliant for range and advice. You can then buy from them or shop around on line. Good luck. There are beginners courses around to get the basics.

Nikon D3200 from amazon is the best deal out for a beginners DSLR, Takes amazing shots and easily upgradable to better lenses for the future. Go into parks and see if they can match that price. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-D3200-Digital-Camera-18-55 mm/dp/B007VBGTX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389369067&sr=8-1&keywords=nikon+3200
