If it's straightforward like you say, I wouldn't bother with a solicitor pal. Can download all forms off, complete them & file at courts yourself. Will Save you a big expense! https://www.gov.uk/divorce/file-for-divorce

Hi, please can anyone tell me if there are any solicitors in Carlisle I can ring for some advice first without having to pay?
Thanks.
Eden G. replied:
Depends what department the advice relates to but Butterworths solicitors offer free consultations in some areas to assess the likelihood of a claims outcome etc. Law firms working on a contingency basis can send out regular bills so you could close your file at any point if you felt the fees were no longer justified. As with anything, you're best speaking to a solicitor directly so they can lay out the proposed costs but I would certainly recommend Butterworths.
