Ok question time: Would you use a stand alone Bicycle Repair and Service shop instead of a Bike shop?
Todd K. replied:
I think this is the future. Check out The Skunkworks and Shifter Bikes. This stuff doesn't happen by mistake. A good mechanic that knows what he is doing can build a steady, loyal customer base with limited over heads. The biggest thing is "trading hours" or accessibility and location... I use a mechanic from his home.

Hell yes:) it's the mechanic that matters to a novice like me. Someone that knows my bike and me. Bike shops see me coming and add on and add on. Once..... A local bike shop had my wheel for TWO broken spokes. Picked it up, and the whole thing had been respoked at $100 without even a ph call first:( Good mechanics are hard to come by. Good coffee WITH the mechanic is awesome
Sam G. replied:
Yes because they are more specialised in that field instead of trying to earn a buck in retail. One of the best going around in Melbourne is Fuel Performance in Murrumbeena.
