Where is your go-to furniture store? I find myself needing to quickly furnish an apartment on a reasonable budget and have been looking everywhere for good deals on...

So, you have quite a few rooms to completely furnish, which I don't care how well you are doing is going to be expensive. Getting good furniture is obviously the best in the long run but it may not be possible to do all at once. When I had to do this I did a combination of things. First thing I did was decide what pieces I decided I wanted to get that were going to be nice. For me it was a sofa and a bed. One I purchased from furniture row and the other from mattress firm. Both were nice and I love them. Second thing I did was go to both the cedar rapids Stuff and the Coralville Stuff. I found what I could there. I managed to get a dresser and some good kids stuff. Third thing I did was grab a truck and drove to Minneapolis and went buck wild at Ikea. It was cheap and it looked good and modern and I was able to coordinate stuff to make the place look less like a Hodge podge of random stuff. Thing was it wasn't quality, all of it broke and wore within a few years but it allowed me to slowly build up the money too replace the items with good nice furniture. Bills brothers is also a good place to get good furniture at a decent mark down. A sort of scratch and dent store.

If you are looking for reasonable dressers, nightstands, coffee tables and shelving, the four hour drive to Ikea is more than worth it. I think Chicago may be closer, but I've only been to Minnesota.
If you are into the mid century look, allmodern.com has good sales and usually free shipping. They are a subsidiary of wayfair.com. I bought an awesome dresser from there for my MCM dining room and have my eye on a retro coffee table with hairpin legs. Overstock.com also has some good stuff if you know the look you want. I did buy a great dresser from Mad Modern.
For sofas, I recommend Bills Bros. here in town. If you don't like anything in their showroom, check their website. They can special order pieces from places like Washington Furniture, a place that specializes in affordable living room sets. I paid $700 for a sturdy love seat and couch that I get tons of compliments on. It did take awhile, fair warning, to get it in from the manufacturer.
Have fun!

I second the trip to Ikea. Hands down. Decent and within budget for most parts. Or you can order online and they get shipped to you but that can get pricey. Get some good key pieces at Ikea and then look on craigslist, check out furniture row. There's a mattress place in the same little complex at Coldstone Creamery, they did good by us with regards to mattresses. Also, fourth of july is your next significant holiday, there will be sales on other stuff. But I second the whole look online at Ikea, pick what you want to potentially bring back, go up and get it, bring it back . Your best bet.

This would be a good week to get the basics. Slumberland has their Memorial Day sale through the 30 th. Add your own style with accent pieces as you find them. http://circulars.slumberland.com/h/m/slumberland/flyer/browse?flyer_run_id=36012&locale=en-US&type=1

Been reasonably satisfied with Furniture Row. Good selection, good service, fair pricing. It's not heirloom stuff, which is OK with me, but looks nice and seems to wear well. We also bought a nicer bedroom set a few years ago at Ethan Allen. Bring money.

Craigslist. Takes some patience and a fair amount of looking for something decent.
