One final note of opposition, then I will depart and unfollow the thread. No disrespect intended, but I'm sorry, acupuncture doesn't work. It is, as the article below states, an elaborate placebo. There are two possible explanations for why many believe acupuncture "works": 1. They believe it works, they want it to work, and the power of the mind (rationalization, endorphins, etc, etc) helps them see results. 2. Magic One of the above explanations is backed by science. The other uses an implausible and unfindable mechanism to "treat" anything from depression to ear infections to cancer. Any treatment that claims to treat multiple, unrelated conditions should be immediately red-flagged in your mind as potential hokum. Others that fall into this category include: chiropractic "medicine", acupressure, hypnosis, and other pseudosciences, the practitioners of which want to sell good feelings disguised and treatment for what ails you. Yes, yes, I know. It works for you (figurative 'you' meaning anyone that claims it works, not just you, Dan). Again, explanation #1 above covers that in a reasoned, scientific way. The placebo effect is a very, very powerful thing; and anecdotal evidence is not evidence in the eyes of science. Acupuncture is hokum. And until someone can explain the mechanism for why sticking needles in feet will cure depression, it will remain pseudoscience.
