How many birds are you looking to get? If you're talking 3-9 you may be best served with a kit coop from mypetchicken.com or the like. My modified shed & run ran about $400 in lumber and hardware, plus about 15-20 hours of build. I imagine a contractor would charge over the $1,000 or so for a kit coop.

Capitol Sheds in Ruckersville might be an option. We got our first chicken house there, and they will modify it for you. Ours is well built. There is a website also.
