I'm asking myself.. have cooking classes? be a personal chef?, caterer? or have a restaurant?
any suggestions??
Diana A. replied:
Should you foolishly decide to go the restaurant route, remember it is difficult to recruit and manage good employees (who are always trying to steal from you at every opportunity), and do take small business entrepreneurial classes before you even think of opening. The Edge Connection based at Kennesaw State Univ has courses for those who want to open restaurants, plus a host of pros in accounting, law, and business management to help you along. They also have a state of the art kitchen where they train you in various functions. There must be something similar in TN. Don't even THINK about doing this without the proper know-how and education and pro support. I worked in catering (in the office) for years; cooked and served as waitstaff at various functions, and then served as hostess for over 4 years, so I know what I'm talking about. Best thing you can do for yourself if you truly want a restaurant or catering business is work in the arena for a while. Ga. State University also has a Fast Track course for budding entrepreneurs, and I took this once, when I was thinking of opening my own dance studio. They told me it would be financial suicide in Atlanta, and friends who have done this have unfortunately proved them right. They save me a ton of money and heartache.
