I agree..I didn't say I didn't like mid levels...I do like them...and there are some good ones. In our practice of 18 Internists and 10 PA-Cs, new patients and patients with new problems see a physician first and then follow up with a PA if they wish. That does depend on the state and in CA I don't recall the laws for PAs. All mid levels have to file a practice agreement with the Board of Medicine for that particular state outlining the scope of the practice. We have use NPs but our docs prefer PAs because their training is closer to that of a physician. Many patients just accept what they're told and don't know when to question if their treatment is appropriate. Health care is headed to using more Mid levels due a shortage of docs as well as lower cost. And, I will add that bedside manner isn't everything and if you're fortunate enough to find one who has it that's a plus but I'd rather have skills and knowledge than personality. It's getting hard to find providers who can spend the time needed. The average visit is 15 minutes. They are starting to use mid levels like work horses. We could go on and on here but the bottom line is to do your homework .
Amanda D. replied:
Dr. Brandan Stark is the best doctor ever. I have worked with many doctors over the years and I highly recommended him. His specialty is family medicine and addiction. Very understanding and has a great sense of humor.
Teresa T. replied:
That's really not true about the walk-in clinics. A lot of those doctors end up working as a Locum Tenen because they can't find a job anywhere else. The walk in clinics are often privately owned with the owner/physician working there. Some of the newer clinics may use Locums but necessarily. It's easy to look a doctors license on the Dept of Health Website. It will tell you if there have been any sanctions in the last ten years. It doesn't go back any further than that.
I need the name of a good primary care physician, preferable one who is in paradise or working at Feather river hospital..coordinating all this by myself without one is...

Mangrove Medical Group. Have been going to them since 1962.
Thomas C. replied:
Ampla Health. Systems.
Andy M. replied:
Rapid Medi-cal expansion has led to a massive shortage of medical providers that accept this payment source. Does your Medicare cover your outpatient visits? If so you may have many more options. If not than try Ampla, Feather River Hospital's outpatient clinic or Northern Valley Indian Health in Chico. Who was providing your Coumadin previously?
Jennie O. replied:
I was living near Sacramento. No issues with doctors there. So moving here I didn't know this but I need a physician to put in new orders for the Coumadin clinic here. Medicare has covered everything so far. I called Feather River hospital and the Indian health both can't take new patients till January.
Denise B. replied:
You can call Feather River Clinic on any morning after 8 and ask to be seen that day. They will give you an appointment for that day (if they aren't all gone...usually not gone if you call early) to be seen by the PA on call. I'm not sure if they will take you if you haven't been there already, but I think they do. Ask.
Denise B. replied:
Feather River Hospital Clinic in Paradise
Judi C. replied:
Ampla Health is the same as Chico Family Health Center, I believe. They are very good!
Jim S. replied:
My wife had a Nurse Practitioner at Mangrove Medical Center who she "swore by." When other problems arose, she always took care of referring her to a specialist. . . . I keep waiting for Chico to get an HMO, like Kaiser who I have been with since 1966. I would move back to Chico if Kaiser bought out Enloe. Fat chance of that happening.
Terri P. replied:
Butte/Glenn Medical Society should be able to direct you to practices accepting new patients.
Ode O. replied:
Dr. David Altman MediCare or other but no MediCal.
Judi C. replied:
Try the Chico Family Health Clinic. They have some of the most caring, capable PA's there. If Linda is still there or Marilyn, both are awesome human beings and PA's.
Jamie W. replied:
Mission Ranch Primary Care. They have several doctors in the practice.
Carla A. replied:
Adventist Feather River Health Ctr Clinic whatever right at the base of Paradise. LOVE THEM!!
