My friend sells these microscopes to many members on a forum I belong to. He has a PHD in botany IIRC. We use them for looking at aerobic bacteria in compost teas. This guy has done his research and has picked the best products for the best prices. He got them manufactured specifically for him from some manufacturer in China I think. I personally don't own any of them but I have used his stuff before and it's legit. The website doesn't look all that great because this guy doesn't care about sales or profit - he merely started the website to facilitate the spread of information related to organic horticulture and to help others in this field. Many microscopes out there may be cheap and even look/sound legit but they really end up sucking. Anyways good luck and let us know what you end up settling on.

I didn't realize they were expensive. Check Fisher scientific and sigma. I make my own in the lab (crystal violet, methylene blue mostly), many stains are pretty caustic/toxic before being dissolved and strongly pos or negatively charged (will fly out of the tube or at a tube made of the right plastic) so handle with care! What are you trying to see?

If you live in the UK (?) or like to pay shipping, then [Brunel](http://www.brunelmicroscopes.co.uk) have a very good reputation. The [Yahoo Microscope Group](http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Microscope) has some international posters and are very helpful with problems. Going through the posts may bring up some names of good suppliers.
