Has he been checked for tick borne diseases? What about a complete cdc check for mineral and vitamin deficiency. How are his teeth? Laser therapy can help too. Audrey Barr Humphrey can do that for you.

I would think acupunture would be a "do no harm". Talk to one BEFORE him/her touching your horse. If you are in western Massachusetts, I recommend Bud Allen in Haydenville. A bit pricey, but very knowledgeable. Just sayin', I'd pesent ALL your findings and x-rays, then have that person explain what they are thinking...

Jackie Dedeo does acupuncture and is fantastic. I have a clients horse who benefits immensely. She also has a product called "body sore" for in between treatments. It acts sort of like the acupuncture so your horse is comfortable longer

I would contact Effective Pet Wellness - you send in a photo and they determine what is wrong. They are amazing. Have fixed so many horses. It could be Lyme or Bartonella, or if it is EPM the herbs they have will help that too. I couldn't ride my mare, she was nuts, couldn't touch her. Now she is beautiful. I also gave her magnesium. Ocean state equine has an acupuncture practicing vet and we've used Angela Jasper (who's also a vet) for acupuncture.

PEMF treatments maybe? Dr Liz Maloney from Equine Therapies if you consider it. She may do acupuncture as well, but that's one thing in a long list of treatments for my horse that we haven't done. (Totally different situation, but my horse was pretty much unrideable 2 years ago and he's doing great under her care. )

Did the radiographs of his back include his entire spine? I see that you have identified an area of pain and believe it is nerve related. Without diagnostics confirming this and treatments resolving it, I would not ride this horse again. It is simply too dangerous. I commend you for looking for treatments to make him more comfortable, such as acupuncture. Unfortunately, those diagnostics probably involve a bone scan and/or MRI and are prohibitively expensive. If the horse is insured, or money is not an issue, pursue those tests. If you really want a specific diagnosis then go see Dr. Davis at New England Equine. If you are happy to keep him comfortable and retired, keep looking for other therapies. Good luck.

Not sure where you're located but check out Dr. Natalie from PegasusVets.com - She's a vet, chiro (which I know you've done), acupuncture, AND laser therapy which I've seen work wonders in both small animals and equine and very non-invasive. She has a few other specialities but those are her main things. PM me if you want more info. My horse is super sensitive and he loves her. Her site says RI but she also goes to NY, MA, and CT.

There are now more than 150 comments, so I am not going to devote the time to read through every one. But, in terms of acupuncture, I have used Dr. Mary Kahan in the past. And I believe Suzanne Loheac of Backstretch Vet now does acupuncture, as well. (She has been my regular vet for years, but didn't have the acupuncture training when I needed it for my prior horse. I haven't needed the service with my current horse, thankfully, so haven't inquired into it.)

The last time he came out to my barn he worked on 4 horses and it ran $95 per horse. Very thorough, I highly recommend him!
