I'm looking for a good car dealer Hey guys,
I'm in the need of a car and do not currently have one. The last car I bought here was not worth the money I spent on it and...

My last car purchase was in 2006, but Hatfield Automall seemed to be on the level. Unless you're going with a manufacturer certified car, a private seller is no more risky than a dealership. An inspection from a trusted mechanic is the best $150 you can spend. Avoid any place owned by Ricart like the plague. It was like they were trying to conform to every bad car dealer stereotype in the book. A salesdrone even followed us to our car and tried to keep us from leaving.

Roush Honda and Roush Honda's used car dealerships are AMAZING. When I got my car, the saleswoman had just had a baby, but still spent all of her time, effort, and even one of her off days to come and help me. We ended up getting a really great deal and their service over the past five years with my car has also been very accommodating.

Louis at Byers Audi near the airport is excellent.

CarMax. You can shop for car online and they will ship it from any of their locations to a Columbus location (I think) for free. There is no wait. No hassle. No nonsense. It really is a pleasure to deal with them. Also, if you don't like what a dealer is offering you for your trade in, you can take your car to CarMax and in about 20-30 minutes have them assess the car and provide you a price they would pay. (It's usually higher than the dealer) Good luck!
TrueBlonde replied:
I've never dealt with them personally, but I know Carmax is known for selling quality cars and I don't think that their salespeople are on commission.

My wife works at Germain Toyota. My family has bought three cars from them in the past year. I recommend them and most of the sales guys are decent guys who won't try and screw you over.

My wife and I have bought two from Hatfield (Kia and Subaru). Working with them was fantastic. They go low on new vehicle cost, looking to possibly make some money on the service agreements and add-ons (which they do not push, just educate you on, and some *are* legitimately worth it).

Do not trust a Carfax. I've seen many cars with frame damage that magically have a clean Carfax. Autocheck is a little more accurate, but not by much. There are some used car apps that can be helpful.

Buying a used car is always a gamble, but if buying the car from a dealership, always take it to a mechanic of your choosing. Then once you know what is wrong with the vehicle, you have a starting point to your negotiations.

If you're looking for an SUV, I recommend Bill Leggett. They're legit, so says myself, and three people I work with. He gave me a great deal on a Grand Cherokee.

I just had to buy a car back in February. I did a lot of my ground work at [cars.com](www.cars.com) and [autotrader.com](www.autotrader.com). The nice thing about these sites are, some of the listings have a free Carfax associated with them. That should at least give you an idea of what you're looking at before you go actually look at a car. Ended up buying a used ride from Nissan North. My dealer was Jon Rix. Also, if you can find transport, most of my family has dealt with Walston Motors up in Marion. They've been in business for a while in that area, and Jim Walston is a straight shooter.
