Experimac in Worthington https://experimac.com The Apple store is going to price gouge you and just tell you to buy a new one. Although at at over 5 years old, Experimac may tell you something similar.

We took ours to Experimac when having issues with its display. They told us that it was going to be a really expensive fix and they’d be happy to it, but also suggested that we set it up as a desktop. After all the work they did to clean it up, when I decided to go the desktop route, they didn’t charge us a dime. Really good guys, willing to take the time to get it right and I’ve never known them to not do right by their customers. I’ve gotten iPad screens replaced there, sold iPhones, bought used Macs, etc and will continue to do all my non warranty Apple work through them

It’s worth researching the model number and problems online. Apple sometimes provides free or reduced cost repairs when enough people complain- even for systems that are out of warranty. You should also research what your exact model and configuration is selling for on eBay and online resellers. Then you’ll have a better idea whether it is cost effective to repair. I believe MicroCenter is a Certified Apple repair shop. If so, I would use Apple or them. I’ve gotten great customer service at both.

I don't think having your computer repaired at the Apple store is a scam. But either way, just look for certified Apple repair shops. Hopefully if they repair your computer wrong they won't just say tough luck.

Apple Store will not scam you. Ive found them to be very upfront and reasonable. You MIGHT want to try MicroCenter, but please avoid Geek Squad, etc at they WILL rip you off.

I don’t know what your situation is, but my kid tanked my laptop of the desk (2015 Macbook pro) and I’m in a similar spot. Best advice so far; just get a normal monitor and use it as a desktop vs spending 1/3-1/2 the price of complete replacement. Cheers.
