Looking to have a suit made. Can anyone recommend a good tailor? I'm looking for a new job and I could use a new suit. Does anyone know a tailor who does bespoke work?
Zaeos replied:
I just went to Gassane Tailors to get a couple jackets and some pants mended and they did a fine job. The titular guy's made some suits for George Bush Jr. and at least one other president- among a crapload of accolades and awards and magazine articles mentioning him stuck up on the walls there are pictures of the two of them together. I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap, but no doubt you could get a great suit made there.

There is a shop in town called Dandy but it isn't my style. A bit more... old fashioned if you will. However, they may be able to do something more modern fit if you ask. Otherwise, http://www.astorandblack.com/. They will come to you and measure you out. The other online retailers have YOU measure...

I don't know of any tailors, but have you tried Indochino.com?
MistaSchlong replied:
Nearly all of my suits are custom made. I have not found a great tailor here. I've used Gassane Tailors before, and I recommend Joseph; however, I believe, while he is competent, he doesn't know what makes a suit look sensational. For that, I feel you need someone who went to fashion school (e.g., Parsons or FIT in New York). That said, I think it would be best to bring in a suit that you've already had made somewhere else that fits the way you want it to, then show Joseph that. If you don't, mistakes will probably be made.

Thanks for the tips. I went to Gassane and they were very nice. We'll see how it turns out. :)

I can recommend Tom Ford, a fellow Austinite. Unfortunately he's based out of New York now.
Anyone recommend a good tailor around Columbus? I've recently purchased some pants that need hemmed. They were a little pricey, so I was hoping to get them...

There's a place in the same plaza as Coach's and Cafe Shish Kebab on Bethel and Godown. Cheap, good, quick.

I know you said Short North but I have to put in a good word for Dublin Tailoring and Alterations in Powell (9345 Dublin Rd). Eduardo does amazing work. Made a sweater fit perfectly that I thought was lost and did extensive tailoring on uniform pants, shirts, and a jacket that all look great now.

Take them back to where you bought them. Most places that sell expensive pants will have this service. If not you can check with a Jos A Bank, they always have a professional tailor on staff and if they won't do it s/he should be able to recommend a good one around town

There's a lady that lives in Dublin that does work out of her house. She hemmed my jeans perfect like. I think her name was Vesna, found her on google search.
