Best ramen in town is Lucky Cat on Cooper in Midtown. Haven't seen tonkatsu on the menu. Another option is by the Sekisui team...Robata in Overton Square. I wasn't impressed with the ramen. More--> http://robatamemphis.com/

Personally, I prefer Red Koi on Poplar and Ridgeway. I just love their Chicken Hibachi http://www.redkoimemphis.com/

Crazy Noodle has some ramen but no gyoza that I know of. They do have mandu's which are really good.

I've given up. Skewers used to be good, but it closed, and the guy who owns it opened a poke bowl place instead. Now, I just get Viet or Korean. For the love of all that is holy, if you find a good joint, please let the rest of us here know. I'm sure the business would like more customers, and I for one would like to patronize someplace that isn't BBQ or hamburgers. Oh yeah, Sushi Jimmi's is good if you want rolls or fusion-ey stuff. He's Vietnamese, so they have banh mi and stuff sometimes. It's not traditional Japanese, but it is tasty.

I'm also looking for authentic Japanese joints, but haven't had much luck. I've tried Robata, Lucky Cat, Red Koi, and other neighborhood joints. So far, not too impressed. I tried Crazy Noodle, but I only had the Korean dishes as the owners, friends have said the noodles are pretty good. This Saturday, I'm going to check out this event put together by the University of Memphis Japanese Department: [The Annual Oishii Japan](https://www.facebook.com/events/1405355489573369/?active_tab=discussion) They have a considerable number of Japanese Exchange students so I am very hopeful there will be good food.
