Does anybody remember the name of the Pet Store on Old Newport Rd. East of Newport Blvd, near Hoag Hospital ? It was kind of at the top of the hill. We got a Dog there...

I remember the family's name that owned the pet store around 1954. The Blood family. The son played football at Harbor in the late 60's. I don't remember the name of the store. They had a bunch of animals there that would be illegal to own today.

I think it was called Mesa Pet Shop. I used to stop by there on my bike after school on my way home, had a monkey out back among other things. I spent hours in there. I loved the place until one day I took in my pet duck I had raised from an egg I found in a dog destroyed nest under a dock on Lido. We were going away for a vacation and I boarded him there thinking he would be safe. When we got back the duck was gone, and the guy said he had died. I knew he lied and had probably sold the duck and I never trusted him again, and never went back. But I did love the place in the early days and back then I wanted to grow up and own one. I became a vet instead, which ended up a better choice.

I think it might of been called Craig's Pet Shop now that you mention that
