my hp laptop screen went out a while back, I could never get it working again, I'm not sure about repairing it but I'd be interested in know if you find anyone. I ended up replacing that laptop a while back and it occurs to me that I should pull the harddrive to make sure I didn't miss any pictures, that may be an option for you.

unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations for actual repair besides attempting it yourself. google the model and odds are there are tear downs and whatnot that could be useful if you want to give it a diy shot. also, regular backups! If you have a desktop, you can get a simple adapter to plug your laptop hdd into a usb port on any other computer.

Laptops are so cheaply made, and relatively expensive to repair, that it's often worth just buying a new one and transferring your data. If you decide to go that route, I suggest buying one of [these](http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812161002). It's an adapter that will take any standard hard drive and let you plug it in via usb. Last time I checked Fry's carries them if you prefer a B&M store. Good luck!
