Very intelligent comment, Jamile. We better send out a memo to the millions that have devoted their lives to those disciplines and the tens of millions that swear by them. They will probably want to know that it's all for nothing. What possible difference could what you eat make? Who cares about the position of your bones? How could anybody possibly be skillful in multiple areas? And that duck comment. Very clever. That really shows me that you know what you are talking about. And, Ian, at least you've got Jamile on your side. What you don't know, but that anybody who has ever had any firsthand experience can tell you, is that acupuncture is amazing. There's really nothing else like it. Not only does it work, but just one session makes a big difference. Ian, I'm guessing you that you've never had a session, have you? If you had, there's no way that you would make such an ignorant comment. Before our second child was born, she was in the breech position. Western medicine had no solution other than to physically manipulate the baby from the outside. They recommended an acupuncturist, a woman that was very well known in the area for that type of work. With just one session, with no external manipulation whatsoever, that woman was able to get our baby to turn around, and I'm talking about eight months into the pregnancy. My very close friend that died of AIDS back in the 1980's gave up on every modality except for acupuncture and herbal teas prescribed by the same gentleman. He outlived his partner by many years and he considered acupuncture and his teas the reason why. Personally, I love acupuncture. I would compare it to a really amazing massage combined with the most incredible nap ever, with a touch of hypnotherapy thrown in. I have yet to meet anybody that has experienced it for themselves that doesn't rave about it. Ian, please tell me how a person like you, who doesn't believe there's any such thing as detox, and who I am assuming has no firsthand experience, not even one session, somehow knows better.

Dr. Mcdougall has a lot of MS related research on his website. He has carried on the research that Dr. Swank began years ago. There's so much evidence that shows how many people with MS benefit from this lifestyle. It's why I started.

Every acupuncturist I've been to has said the same: you need meat. Traditional Chinese medicine is big on that. Which is a shame, because I've found other elements to be very helpful.

This is the problem with non-evidence-based practitioners. Once you stop expecting therapists to hold to anything resembling evidence, they can say whatever they feel like. BTW, you might want to point your mum to the fact that a well-constructed trial with 1800 back pain sufferers that showed that acupuncture was about as effective as sham acupuncture.
