I have recently found two places in Plano that are close but really delicious focusing in quality ingredients. Sweet Arlene's is the closes and they do cakes and cupcakes. They will also host cupcake decorating parties for kids I think. Sugar Ray's Bake shop is a little further into Plano but has amazing cakes and cupcakes.

I'm confused...so Kroger and Isabelly's were the only local recommended bakeries? Not locally, I like Nothing Bundt Cakes.:v http://www.nothingbundtcakes.com/

Best dim sum in SF? Hey, I'm a tourist in San Francisco that's going to eat dim sum tomorrow. I heard that it's really good in San Francisco and I'm stuck between good...
Hotpwnsta replied:
Good Mong Kuk & Delicious Dim Sum are some good options in Chinatown if you want quick dim sum to go. For sit down, I did enjoy City View. However, the general consensus is that Chinatown DOES NOT have best dim sum in the city. Ones considered "best" or highly regarded in SF are: Hong Kong Lounge, Dragon Beaux, and Koi Palace. They all have long lines so you need to get there before they open. Happy dim sum-ing!
midflinx replied:
Hang Ah Dim Sum Tea House But search this subreddit for dim sum. There's lots of threads on it already.
kels712 replied:
It's not the best in the city but Dim Sum Club at Van Ness & Laguna is pretty solid. The taro dumplings and har gow are really good
lemonjewcer replied:
Hang Ah is very good and is a full service restaurant. But you will pay 3 x more than a take out place like Good Mong Kok. I am not a fan of Delicious but the place 2 doors down is MUCH better.
kschang replied:
Neither. Dragon Beaux out in the avenues. Diddo what the other guy said. If you're in Chinatown, I'd go Great Asia, or maybe City View, if you can get seats. Maybe China Live as well.
Grokker999 replied:
I would never mistake hang ah tea room as being the best dim sum. It is fun if you're looking for dive dim sum, but honestly last time I went there it was just so filled with European tourists and no Chinese that the allure really dimmed for me. The fun of 20 and 30 years ago was gone.
I really like City View for the food, but if I was a tourist I wouldn't want to go there because it really has no authentic old-time Chinese feel. It is very sterile feeling. But the food is top notch.
Remember that dim sum is generally an afternoon thing not served after 2:30 in most Restaurants.
For a fun Chinatown dim sum experience I might suggest lunch time at Oriental Palace or Great Eastern.
For Super high quality, city view is definitely high on the list but note they only serve lunch and close about 2:30 for the last customer.
I don't know why anyone would want to buy dim sum takeout on vacation. Dim sum is best fresh out of the steam platters and succulent dishes. He's surely won't get that dining on cold dishes in the park.
What I currently think is the best dim sum in the city and available at night for a millennial crowd is Dumpling Time. The soup dumplings are amazing that you eat partially by sipping out of the center with a straw. But this is far from Chinatown and a different experience entirely.
Mundus_Vult_Decipi replied:
City View for sit down, Good Mong Kok for stand in line, take to go hot or frozen.

Koi Palace in Daly City and Hong Kong Lounge.

If you want the best dim sum in the Bay Area, you'll have to head outside the city. The Cherryland neighborhood of North Hayward and the Jingletown neighborhood in the Fruitvale area of Oakland both have multiple world class Dim Sum offerings. These are also great places for experiencing true bay area culture.

I’ll be contrarian and say I don’t like Dragon Beaux. It’s too westernized and they try to take a different spin on most dishes...and they don’t put soy sauce on the table which I find odd. Hong Kong Lounge 2 was the best but it burnt down. Lai Hong and Great Eastern have my vote.
ihavetype2 replied:
If you’re not on a budget Yank Sing. It is really expensive though. Dragon Beaux for more moderate and still great quality. Pallet is Americanized Edit:changed kin khao which is a Thai place (also pretty good) to Yank Sing
shempmalone replied:
Koi Palace is probably best all-round, but it's a bit of a hike. Ton Kiang is good for cart style. Lai Hong is about the best you'll get in Chinatown. A new fancy place that's good is Palette Tea House in Ghiardelli Square.

My go-to spots for SF dim sum:
Hang Ah (super casual)
City View (casual)
Hong Kong Lounge (casual)
Yank Sing (fancy-ish)
Fancier places like Yank Sing won’t have hole-in-the-wall prices, but I like to think of it as you’re paying for consistency. Some of the hole-in-the-wall places can be hit or miss depending on the day; but it’s not often a fancier place will put out a dish that disappoints in quality.
I’ve also heard really good things about Dragon Beaux but have never been.
Also, Good Mong Kok is great quality for super cheap, but there are a couple things to consider: 1) there may be a long line; 2) there is no seating; 3) menu is limited; 4) your food will get colder as you’re trying to find somewhere to eat/eating on the street and a lot of their items are only enjoyable when they’re super warm/hot!
If you really want to try Good Mong Kok, I suggest stopping by and picking up only a few items to eat very quickly!
