We used Veranda Landscaping. Only got one bid though so not sure if affordable, but they do a 3D rendering of your backyard when in the design process, which is nice to see visually ahead of time.

My parents and aunt and uncle both used Kerri Landscaping. Said they are not the cheapest, but did excellent work, and they would definitely recommend them. Both yards were in Livermore and turned out great. Both were tear out and redo of existing yards, not new though.
