This depends on where you live and how old you are. Where I am in Canada, there are programs for low-income families where their kids can get braces paid for, but that'd be 18 years and younger. On the other hand, I paid for my braces outright which actually ended up saving me 600 ish dollars. My orthodontist gives that discount if people pay upfront rather than do the payment plans. On that note, payment plans are common here and often used. The monthly payments are pretty affordable.

Dental schools have things like that, but be aware its not invisalign etc. Its more basic treatments, but some have good programs for free treatment.

Yeah, I am finding mine overly expensive too. Dr. Shankman, now long dead, was my dentist until the 80's, he had his practice beside the Palace Theatre (Park Theatre then) was reasonably priced because he understood the community and the people that lived here! If you are like me without benefits it is very expensive!
