Looking for affordable heating oil in East Hartford. Does anyone know where to find some? My wife and I are just starting out, and this is our first time buying oil....

Price is only gonna vary by 20-30 cents at most per gallon. You can get a contract to lock in a rate, but when you're first starting out, paying up front can be hard. I use Spring Brook Oil. They're not the cheapest, but they're a small company with a fair owner who has been willing to work with us in the past. They deliver and invoice instead of demanding payment up front, which works for us, and when we got into some trouble with a collapsing boiler they helped us out with a payment arrangement. Their rate isn't the lowest but they're human beings and I recommend them highly. For a cheap rate, Plainville Oil is pretty good. Unsure if you're inside their delivery range. They'll want payment up front.

I'd sign up for the New England oil co-op. You have to pay something like $50 to get in but they collectively bargain with oil, electricity, natural gas, all utilities I think. If you refer people you get your entrance fee returned to you. Sounds like a ponzi scheme but it's not at all, the prices are *way* cheaper.

We've been members of Pinergy for years now http://www.pinergy.org/ the deal is that the price gets capped and you can pay anywhere from that cap and below. Oil service is currently through Viking Oil out of West Hartford. They use special calculations to determine when you might need a fill up and come out then, you can also call if you are getting low incase they haven't shown up yet. Current price is at 2.94, also make sure the boiler/furnace has been tuned recently.

I've used McCarthy oil for the 2.5 years I've owned my house in Wethersfield. My dad has known the owner since he was a kid so I trust him/the company. I know they service Glastonbury, so I bet they service East Hartford as well. I'm on auto delivery and I haven't gotten my Fall fill up yet, so I couldn't tell you what the price was. As for the company though, any time I've had an issue with my burner (last winter was a nightmare, moisture in my oil tank) they have come out right away and fixed the issue. I have a service contract that I pay a little over $200 annually as well, it's optional but has definitely paid for itself with all the issues I've had due to my house being a freakin funhouse! They also come out yearly to service my burner and replace filters.
Oil is expensive and sucks. My advice to you is keep your thermostat down, if you crank the heat in the winter, you'll drain your tank fast! I keep my house around 67 degrees and use a space heater, as the electricity we use for it costs less than oil. We plan to do an oil/gas conversion next year if we can afford it.
