Does anybody have a recommendation for a chimney cleaner?
Jeff H. replied:
I use some fire fighters from Bloomingdale. They are very knowledgable with fire places. They clean and inspect, and will be honest. They also teach firemen about chimneys and their dangers. It's The Chimney Department. (630) 584-6620.

I use Pozzi, they have great service and were very competitive with rates. http://www.pozzichimneysweep.com/

Any reputable chimney sweep companies in the area?
Amanda C. replied:
We've used Early Times Chimney Sweeps twice: they do a good job, quick, and cleanup after themselves. On the downside, they do not dress like Burt from Mary Poppins: highly disappointing!

I'm looking for a recommendation for a chimney sweep. My father hasn't used his fireplace for a number of years and I understand that it's wise to make sure it's clean...

I use Early Times Chimney Sweeps every 5 years or so Elaine. They've always done a decent job. I've gotten a few telemarketing calls from them recently offering a $79 deal which is a good price. http://earlytimeschimneysweeps.com/chicago-chimney-sweep/
