In your generator purchase consideration, beware of the simultaneous drive engine technology... NOT quite perfected yet! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYTJ9 v2 vsaE

Ray Vaughan, there are paralleling transfer switches with automatic synchronization but I'm betting your power company would scream bloody murder if you tried it.

Im not a diesel generator salesman now, nor am I opposed to gassious fuel but there is a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to some of the "better efficiency" claims. Gallons to wattage diesel is just hard to beat; however, diesel fuel does not last long 3 to 5 yrs depending on conditions. Stability ASTM D6468 is the hardest to keep up...

I used to sell generators in a previous life. The biggest problem is undersizing the generator. If the load is all resistive (solid state transmitter) you could get away with as little as a 30% over rate. If there are any inductive loads, 50% is a minimum for over rate depending on the load. From what you are telling, it sounds like a 30 kw would work. I would stay away from diesel. There a lot of reasons that I don't have time to go in to. I'd use propane and a 1,000 gallon tank. Propane leaks dissipate. Diesel leaks...... let's just say they can be VERY expensive. Cummins (formerly Onan) is a good generator but sometimes a little pricey. Here is a link to a company that I have been using and had excellent luck with. http://www.gillettegenerators.com/

Always size gensets 50% higher than current demand. Problem is, they like to run at a sweet spot of 80% load mostly. If you need 100 kVA, buy a 150, 200? 300. Etc. There is quite a price jump when you break the 300 kVA line though.

Tom Zachman heat is exhausted. Alex Hartman is coming close with what I am looking for by calling one of the gensets cheep. Name brand is what I am looking for. Personal experience on different brands.

As an example: I have a 20 kW Winco (single phase) that's not equipped for Liquid LP. In order to get full output on vapor, it needs a supply tank with enough surface area to vaporize... a 500 gallon horizontal tank is needed. In the 20 below zero range it needs the surface area that only a thousand gallon tank will provide.

Brian Spieker yes.

I have several Onan LP fired units. The one nearest your needs is a 6 cyl inline Cummins that runs like a bear.

Kohler at the studio. The Kohler ATC went stupid a couple years ago. It thought it had transferred back to shore power. Even showed it had on the front panel. Nope. Had to kill the power and do it manually. Then a year ago it went to the dancing indicator lights syndrome. Dealer had a hard time finding a replacement. even though it's only 7 years old.
