I think that Francis Carr became a Brother. His dad Louis owned the bakery. I lived on 2 nd ave south in the 1300 block went to THE Jefferson school and often went to Family Bakery for Saturday morning glazed twists for my mom. With all this doughnut talk I am going to have to get a glazed something next time I am in Elmer's.

My Escanaba Daily Press paper route ran down 15 th street, from 2 nd Ave to 10 Ave south. I had it from when I turned 12 until I graduated from Holy Name. How well I remember the sweet smell of doughnuts, when I'd drop the paper off, INSIDE Carr's Family Bakery!

Pete Hirn owned The Family bakery. It was the first job I had that paid by the hour. I washed pots and pans and scrubbed the floors for $1.00 an hour. Big "dough" in 69. He also gave me the nickname "Timo".

At one time I think the Carr or Karr family owned it. I always had a malted milk birthday cake from there. This was in the mid 1950 s. When I saw the picture I could instantly be there and remember the display cases and wonderful smells.

Loved the glazed twists! Wasn't there a grocery store across the street that had a window in the side where you could buy ice cream cones? Kobasics Grocery. and the Hob Nob were close also.
