Need recommendations for a good OB/GYN in Fairbanks unless there are none?
Tanya G. replied:
That's interesting. I would have never thought that about them but we don't have babies. My daughter is 28 and Dr Hogenson was great with her. Between passing out at work blood transfusion and an emergency surgery. I would say she is great but again I was not dealing with babies so there was absolutely no pressure for anything.
Melody T. replied:
Many of these doctors use ultrasounds at every appointment: I encourage you to join the group, Alaska natural mamas" and other natural pages if this is your first birth. You have the right to say no to those ultrasounds (and other procedures). The frequent ultrasounds are linked to a speech delay and hearing trouble. -Dr. Heilman at interior women's health saved me and my son eight years ago at an emergency c section too.
Chelsea R. replied:
I love love love Dale Hardy at Chena OBGYN. He's birthed three of four of my babies and is the absolute best doctor I could ever ask for. He was the one doctor that treated me like an actual patient and not just a paycheck.
Sarah E. replied:
I absolutely loved the entire staff at Chena OBGYN. I have strong feelings against Dr Baurick I'm willing to share in PM. Dale Hardy is amazing, and Dr Hogensen guided me kindly thigh a high risk pregnancy with care and skill. Dr Heilman delivered my 8 year old when she was working out of TVC, but I won't go to her now because I won't give IWH my business.
Krista W. replied:
Elli Hogeson is mine. She is very professional.
Chelsea R. replied:
The one doctor I'd advise against would be Dr Miles. He works at Univeristy of Womens Health. He was my doctor with my first and I will never recommend him to anyone. He was always really quick, in and out, didn't get to know me or my concerns unless I pushed. I had extremely bad preeclampsia and went unwatched for it. Just one day out of the blue, he said my levels were "a little high" and I was to be induced the next day. Normal levels are about 300 - I didn't know what my levels were until I seen Dale for my next baby when he told me how he was surprised my baby wasn't harmed and I didn't seize. Turned out my levels were 1,800. Plus, he was on his phone in the next room when I was having to push. The nurse delivered my son (who is her first baby she delivered), not my own doctor. But, if you do go there, at least take caution. Hopefully he's gotten more careful with his patients.
Marlies G. replied:
I second Dr. Mudge!! 907-456-8191
Kerstin E. replied:
Chena OBGYN!
Julie T. replied:
Dr. Jessica Highfill@TVC OBGYN! Always been amazing to me and understanding of my anxieties.
Krista B. replied:
I've been seeing Dr. Baurick at IWH since I was 15 (7 years now), he got me through a "scary" surgery (for me anyways at 16), and about 2 1/2 years ago he delivered our twins. Dr Heilman was my "back up" doctor so I only seen her a handful of times but she was very nice as well. The staff at IWH is also incredibly nice!
Sue M. replied:
Chena OBGYN Dr. Schumacker
Jane V. replied:

Susan F. replied:

Pam C. replied:

Diane M. replied:
Dr Baulrick! He is male but the best
Christina G. replied:
Dr. Hogenson at Chena obgyn. She's been fantastic!
Tanya G. replied:
DR Hogenson. She saved my daughters life!
Melody T. replied:
I did NOT like Chena OBGYN. I felt they were very pushy about tests, vaccines, and meds and things against my wishes. I switched to Dr. heilman at interior women's health. She left on vacation and I was "given" to Dr. Bauerick (male). I loved them both and the facility/nurses! I had a successful VBAC ten days overdue. No way would Chena obgyn have "let" me do that.
I use Arctic Chiropractic now, 2 brothers who are efficient, cheap, and they listen. They also have massage therapy. I've never had to pay more than my insurance covers. They take walkins.

Hi there. I'm looking for a new primary care doctor not associated with TVC. Of course, he/she has to be accepting new patients. Any advice?
Cheryl W. replied:
Dr May is a naturopath who is opening his own practice with a different model for health care. He is working along side Dr Rice. Their new practice will be off airport road. The new premise is you pay a monthly fee and see the Dr as often as you need. He is stepping away from insurance models of health care and big business type of health care.
Lisa W. replied:
I agree, Dr. May and Dr. Rice are the way to go. Dr. Rice is an MD and Dr. May is an ND. Perfect combination. Their new practice will probably be open June 5 th and is in the Alaska USA building on Airport.
Joanna S. replied:
Joan Thomas is my PCP. She's a good general practice doc with Fairbanks clinic. She'll send you elsewhere if it's beyond her scope
