Oral Alpan is actually an immunologist who also treats allergies. IMHO that's more overall approach for a complicated patient. http://oandoalpan.com/ He used to have privileges at Fairfax, but I think he gave them up. He has his own flow cytometry lab in house. He's been on the Newborn Screening Advisory Committee for the state of VA with me. We like Dr. Sylvia Suarez. The practice is called Excel Dermatology. She’s on Gallows Rd in Vienna. Front office staff kinda rude but she’s great.

Dermatologists, for some reason, are so hard to book in this area. I was told by my dermatologist to call them daily to see if someone cancels. They said they don't mind the calls. I called for a few days and sure enough something became available for the next day instead of having to wait two weeks. So that would be my suggestion. Keep calling until someone can get you in fast.

I've been seeing Dr. Shabazz at Renascance Dermatology. They're by Fair Oaks now. Her and her nurses are always so friendly, and she explains everything she's doing and answers all of my questions. She has never once pushed any products on me either. She always makes sure I'm wearing sunscreen regularly.

If you're in Fairfax, Dr. Abramova. One of the better derms I've ever been to. Lovely office. Nice folks. I always get an appt same week or within a few days. They also have zocdoc enabled so you don't actually have to call and talk to a person to find an appt. Though if it's anything less than routine I'd probably call in addition. Looking for a good dermatologist in Fairfax area; open to any NoVa locations. Suggestions, please! I've been searching everywhere, and not even Yelp can help me with...
Rolston replied:
I generally use the Washingtonian list of physicians which lead me to Dr. Glassman at Capital Dermatology. Their reviews on Yelp left me confused. The office sends your paperwork ahead of time and you can fill it out on the internet, which I did. I arrived on time, maybe 5 minutes early, and was taken to the examination room almost immediately. I spoke with a nurse, then Dr. Glassman came in to check me for abnormal moles and the like. I showed him, while the nurse stood in the background, the areas I was concerned about and he explained what they were. He found a couple spots he wanted to biopsy. The nurse got the tools, he removed the areas and we were done. My appointment was about a year ago and all I can remember is looking at my phone to see what time it was because the whole process was unbelievably efficient. I think it took about 15 minutes. I value my time and I really appreciate when others do the same. Perhaps some people require more interaction, I don't have insurance so I paid a few hundred dollars for those few minutes but I would much rather get it over as quickly as possible than have them draw it out like I am doing with this review.

Dr. Roberta Moreland in Leesburg/Landsdowne. I have been seeing her for 13 years. I had cystic acne in high school and nobody ever knew because she controlled it so well; came out with zero scarring. She also saved me from skin cancer six times with extremely minimal scarring and a great overall experience. Go to her. Visit the outlets while you're out there.
Can anyone recommend some alternative methods to a pretty severe acne issue? Family member has been to a dermatologist , unsuccessful, and does not want to use accutane
Katy O. replied:
I had bad acne problems a few years back and dr.s just wanted to prescribe cream after cream to treat it. After a few years of removing different things from my diet and trial and error with face wash I found I have an intolerance to soy. I was vegetarian at the time so I was eating a lot of tofu and drinking a lot of soy milk. Take a really hard look at diet. I'd be willing to bet the culprit is there. Also use a very natural cleanser, a good hydrosol, and a low rating comodgenic oil as a moisturizer. Evan Healy tea tree cleanser is the best. A good pure rose water as a toner, I get mine from mountain rose herb. And I also use rose hip oil as my moisturizer.
Dana L. replied:
I have been struggling with acne myself - and found that creams and antibiotics weren't too helpful. I think using birth control has helped to tone the break outs down, but I still get pimples - usually after my period (oddly enough). One thing that I have changed though, that I feel has made a noticeable difference, is the makeup that I use. I used to use Mac foundation and powder and switched recently to using Bare Minerals. I always felt like Mac was a good quality line BUT I think it was/is too thick or concentrated for my skin. Bare Minerals, on the other hand, seems lighter and actually beneficial to my skin.

Dr Albert Moses...the best
Jan F. replied:
I was seeing Dr. Moses, and I liked him. But I had a lot of trouble with the office staff. They were unable to squeeze me in when I needed to see him for a prescription renewal. I also asked if they could call me if they had a cancellation. But that never happened. I switched to Dr. Suarez of Fairfax Dermatology, and I like her.

Dr. Silverman is at Yorktown 50 Building. He and his staff are super nice. Sometimes hard to get an appt. He has recommended Dr. Sundaram and Dr. Dintiman in the past. I have seen all three over the years and was happy with the care they provided. I've started using Health Tap on my iPad to help find Dr's also.
Local peeps, I need another referral. Does anyone have an internist that they can recommend? My dermatologist wants me to see one. Thanks!
Pam G. replied:
Dr Jon Cary at Manassas Internal. He's been in Washintonian Top Doctor but more importantly he listens and doesn't rush you in and out. He has several doctors in his practice and they are all nice.
