Ring Electric installed a couple ceiling fans and were prompt, well priced, and did a good job. That said...they weren't sketchbags and will probably charge you using paperwork and taxes.

You say there was no light in the room before. So do you mean there is no electrical circuit going to the ceiling? If so, you need to have a new circuit installed going to an electrical box in the ceiling. This is a lot more work than just :installing a ceiling fan."

Paying someone you know and trust "cash" is very different to asking random internet strangers. You're asking for trouble here, especially in the case where electrical cables are going to be hidden from view.
