A few years back my sister, friend, and I went on a trip to Rome. We rented an apartment instead of getting a hotel. It was a FANTASTIC experience. It was great, we would get up in the morning and walk around the park across the street. We'd head to the market down the block to pick up fresh bread, fruit, and meats for our sandwiches. Sight seeing all day, and then we would make pasta and have wine on our patio at night. It was cost effective, and it got us out of the tourist areas. We had to interact with locals which was a really cool experience. This is the site we used: http://www.cross-pollinate.com/rome/p/1
