Did it freeze up? If it stopped working and froze up: #1 Turn the unit to off. #2 Check the air filter. Make sure it is clean. If it is dirty then that is probably the problem. #3 If the filter was dirty, wait a couple of hours until it unfreezes, then turn it back on. If none of that works, then it might be something simple like a capacitor. My HVAC guy told me he is replacing about 20 a week. It is a part on the outside unit which turns the compressor on. It is an inexpensive fix compared to most HVAC repair problems. Good luck.
