Hairdresser recommendation for asian hair Hi all,
I'm looking for a recommendation for a good hairdresser who can work with (female) Asian hair. I'm pretty low...
chubbydidge replied:
Serious question from an uneducated guy, how does Asian hair differ from non Asian hair?

Thanks everyone. I did end up going to Sui. Overall happy with my cut and would probably go back again!
robinpescador replied:
If you are willing to travel a bit, there's a fair few Asian hairdressers in Box Hill. The train station is on the Lilydale and Belgraves lines.

In asia.

Personally I go to the one on the corner of Hopkins and Leeds in Footscray. Alternatively head out to South Yarra to King's Domain for a different experience.
OIP replied:
i'm neither female nor have asian hair (helpful right) but i often go to Sui in Russell St, went first time because i was in a hurry one day and keep going back. somewhat entertainingly they always give me a substantially better haircut than hipster barbers, for the same price.

SUI on Bourke St (one of the plaza that goes through to China Town) in CBD. Very good hair dressers, they also have another shop on Russel $35 for men's cut.

I go to Sui on Russell st in the CBD. Ask for Noori, she'll take good care of your hair.

You simply MUST see the wonderful Michael at Bouffant Delacroix in Hawksburn Village, Toorak. He's an expert in all kinds of hair hairstyles, makeup and more... and completely fabulous! www.bouffantdelacroix.com

Sui! They have two salons in the CBD. Amazing!

If you're after something modern, go see Siya at Little Buddha in Collingwood. It's on the 86 tram line (on Johnston Street, near corner of Smith Street) or the buses 270/271/272. It's a lovely couple who own/run the salon.

I can't imagine why all the places in footscray wouldn't do a decent job of it. In Australia you get trained to do hairdressing and shops generally wouldn't employ you until you are, so you shouldn't be worried about someone doing a tacky job for a simple cut. Colouring & shaping could be a different story but not for maintenance. Just pick out a friendly place that's not the cheapest, ask for a bare minimum cut, if they don't bork it (highly unlikely) go back again in a while. IMHO you're being far too shy about it! Another option is to ask for a recommendation from a friendly shop owner in your area of your same descent.
