MCM in Phoenix should include a trip to Talieson West, it is amazing. PS has tons to see, particularly the new Architecture and Design Center downtown. Great exhibition on E. Stewart Williams on now. Since you have a car, it is really easy to drive th e best, most highly concentrated neighborhoods of MCM homes. It is all in a very close area. Furniture shopping in the Uptown Design District is great, as is the little design center comprised of about 5 great stores on Perez Road. You can PM me for more specifics, and eating suggestions.
Karen D. replied:
The Orbit Hotel is great! I stayed there a few years ago. You might enjoy a tour of Joshua Tree if you're willing to venture off the MCM path for a while. Enjoy and Happy Anniversary!
Andy A. replied:
Also, check out The Purple Room for Show.

Hi Robert. In Phoenix....I'd head to Scottsdale. I live in "village grove". There are tons of fabulous mid century beauties in this neighborhood. Then head over to old town scottsdale for art galleries and world class shopping. Scottsdale Fashion Squa re has every shop you'd ever desire. And, right next to the Biltmore...is Biltmore Fashion Park. Another fab. shopping destination! Talieson is basically north-east scottsdale. Restaurants are everywhere but...my husbands a native Arizonan and he recommends trying the Mexican food. Hope u enjoy the biltmore! Its simply fantastic!

I'm a Scottsdale girl (starting in 1969) - now live in Tucson, however, hubby and I venture to Phx every couple of months. Modern Manor is a must for furniture - it's at 716 W. Hazelwood - just west of 7 th Ave- between Camelback & Ind. School Rds. (abo ut 15 min from Biltmore) - there are also other fun mid-cent stores to see around that area. I'm certain the owners of Mod. Manor will have brochures of where to buy mid cent. "Red" - is high-end, but absolute eye-candy. It's on Camelback, just east of Central. Eating: try "Dick's Hideaway" - a tiny little place that you'd miss if not hunting for it. It's across from "The Vig" - also an awesome place that used to be a bank in the early 60 s. (16 th St north of Bethany Home)- 10 min from Biltmore. Steak house with awesome atmosphere is "Maestros" - across from Fashion Sq. - Camelback/Scottsdale Rd.(15 min from Biltmore) - sit in the bar and listen to live music. Also, if you go north on Scotts. Rd to 15034 N. Scottsdale Rd., try "Zinc Bistro" - 'fun French food - and super atmosphere! I believe Alison King founder of Modern Phoenix (FB site) provides a map of all the local noteworthy mid-cent neighborhoods. Have fun!

Have dinner at "Mr. Parker's", at The Parker. make the reservation and enjoy the insanely vibey place that it is. Pricey, sure, but there's not another restaurant quite like that one. You'll love it.
Rick P. replied:
You and your wife will have a gas, Robert. There are MANY unique shops all over Palm Springs and a new trolly "The Buzz" has just opened to make the exploring even more enjoyable. Find your way to "Uptown Design District" on the north end of Palm Can yon. Also...try The Tonga Hut for great Tiki Drinks and Island Pupus. The owner, Amy Boylan is a MCM expert and will certainly enrich your visit. BTW...the Palm Springs International Film Festival will be in full swing. Too many things, such little time! Enjoy!
Andy A. replied:
Hey Robert, I'm unaware of any tours that have interior viewings other than during Modernism Week in February. Re: consignment stores. There are many, however, they have little MCM merchandise. It's very hit and miss. You'll find most MCM products in the Uptown Design District and Perez Rd

Suzan, I live in Dallas. Hyatt at Reunion is fairly close by. Omni hotel is new and a little further away but worth the little extra distance. W Hotel is directly across the street, within 50 feet of southend of American airlines. Tell your sister and mother hello for me!
