Eczema is response to a gut imbalance, mainly leaky gut syndrome or parasites. Is he on a probiotic? The GAPS diet is also something you might want to look into. I was plagued by severe eczema my entire life (saw an allergist, immunologist, gastrointes tinalist, and dermatologist regularly) and I only continued to get sicker. I eventually lost half my hair due to the massive amounts of steroids my allergist put me one... That was the beginning for me to start researching how food and gut health is connected to skin issues. I'm now 90% healed due to the GAPS diet, acupuncture, and liver cleansing herbs. Any topical cream your derm. gives you will have some toxic ingredients in it (google them), I've found that unrefined shea butter is the very best for eczema. Especially in the cold months. Vitamin D deficiency (which will be worse in winter due to limited amounts of direct sunlight on skin ) is also linked to eczema. I highly suggest starting him on some. Going gluten/grain free will also help immensely.

I second Dr. Viksman. That compound cream is amazing and helps when the other natural stuff doesn't cut it. Cerave and aquaphor mixture every night and a humidifier in his room. We have never changed his diet and our flare-ups are mainly seasonally (super dry in winter and when he gets super sweaty in summer).
