Just an anecdotal suggestion as a service dog handler - don’t send the dog away for training. Choose a program/course that allows you to be with the dog. This way, the dog learns to listen to YOU rather than the trainer. The trainer trains you, you train the dog. While “away” programs have many success stories, there’s also plenty of stories about dogs coming back and completely disregarding their owners because they were taught someone else was in charge.

I’ve been taking my pup to DogBoys for private training. She’s nervous around other dogs and strangers. Two sessions and she’s doing so well! Most of the training is training me, not her. ☺️

We use an online program called Cornerstone Gundog Academy and they are fantastic! It’s not just for gundogs...you can choose from basic training for obedience house dogs, or other levels depending on your needs. They break it down weekly and daily with plans, videos, examples, and a private FB community to get advice. We’re training our 14 week old pup and he is such a GOOD boy. Enjoy your training! It’s such a wonderful bond and way to communicate with your fur baby.

I took my Rottweiler to Joyce Morgan Dog Training. We went to a group class, which is great, because you're around different dogs but in a controlled setting. Wouldn’t really recommend Off Leash. Nice people, and know what they’re doing, but my dog really didn’t learn much and it was $$$. I know a lot of the work is keeping up with it yourself and maintaining, but she’s a 4 year old GSD and still acts like a puppy and is a terror to people and other dogs. It was disappointing :(

We got our pup during the pandemic and had the same problem. We go to the Zoom Room up on Anderson/Burnet-ish. The trainers there are pretty great and our pup has been night and day. I don't think it was too expensive either. You do the training with your dog, since it's really both of you that need to learn. I also feel much more confident in training since she is my first pup.

I really like The Canine Center. They lowered their prices sometime in the last few years too. a 60-minute 1 on 1 training session is only $100. They also offer all-day training where you leave your dog, but I'm not sure of the prices.

We bought ours from Brown Water Kennels in Palestine. Not super close or far away but he’s a great family dog & hunting companion and was very affordable.

Considering all that your pup has gone through, please consider finding a positive reinforcement facility. One mentioned Paul Mann, he’s fantastic. Jen from DogBoy’s Dog Ranch or Lydia from Jumping Jack are also great. Those that use e-collars are just hawking a torture device and calling it training. Also remember that it’s a fluid experience. It’s not ever a one and done situation.
