Dr Nasir Haque in Germantown, he is great, very thorough and was on an episode of Mystery ER. (901) 348-6487
Jamie S. replied:
Tried ENTs, pulmonary, GIs, allergists. I made my first trip to Vanderbilt this week. I'm thinking your sister needs a diagnostician at Mayo clinic or Vanderbilt
Fawn C. replied:
Has she seen a pulmonary specialist yet? I would suggest seeing Dr Wilons or Dr Golden for evaluation. Also has GERD been ruled out? That can cause a chronic cough.

Yall. My heart aches that many of you are suffering with this. I consider it one of my hardest maternal experiences thus far. Dr. Jerome Thompson, a pediatriac ENT with ut was my last local dr to try per the rec of my pediatrician. out of 11 or 12 specialists, he was our 4th ENT. The first apmt did not begin well but after he learned my son coughed in his sleep, he did a 180. He called a dr at northwestern who advised him to do a testing/exploratory surgery. I don't know if it had a name but he ran labs on the...I don't know what to call the goo, gunk, material...in the sinuses under the eyes and bingo. The previous docs obviously missed it bc the first ENT did 3 surgical procedures and did not run labs! Sigh. Anyway, therefore, none would prescribe an anti fungal bc their "awake" in office tests did not yield fungus. Sigh. Anyway, once the labs came back, he went on an antibiotic for strep and an anti fungal for the budding yeast. Now, my theory is that his body is prone to making yesat and I have proof that he is indeed a strep carrier so the cough would and will try to return. A friend introduced me to the Threelac and fivelac probiotics. my non-dr explanation is that this is like little pacmen that run around and try to eat the yeast. It really is helping him avoid digression and keeps his yeast in check. I order through Michael winicki. I have emails I can forward. My second son has a disease involving strep on his brain so in all honesty, I haven't studied this probiotic very much as I am studying my other son's disease but I know for Gurner, it has been a blessing! My third son began "that cough" and thankfully, I knew exactly what to do immediately! In fact, I have their fivelac on the counter waiting on them as I type
Amy L. replied:
Boy do I have a long, 4.5 year story to tell! But here is what I want others to know about my son Gurner's health journey. This journey includes countless strong and wrong prescriptions, 12specialists, $$$, etc. Starting at age 4 he developed a cough. not just any cough, not a lung cough, but a deep, intense throat cough. He coughed anywhere, anytime. He coughed awake, asleep, at Disney World, at parties, at school, inside, outside...So we began the medical journey. One of the first steps was to an ENT who determined that G needed tonsils out, adenoids out, and sinus surgery. out of desperation to give our exhausted son relief, he had that all done on his 5th birthday. Not only did this not Solve the problem, it also made for a very painful recovery from surgery as the coughing continued. To put the coughing into perspective, he coughed up to 36 times a MINUTE for day and night. So, as you know, we as the parents had to elbow our way in and around the doctors to try to get some relief for our son because they just heard "cough." The next step was a broncoscopy. (Also had a c.f. Test). Then a reflux test. Out of desperation, I went back to the pediatrician one last time begging him to tell me which national venue to pursue. He had me try 1more ENT (our 4th ENT dr.) who was a very experienced dr. He was bewildered and because I grabbed him by the ankles and begged, he called a dr at northwestern for advice. He did a testing surgical procedure and discovered strep and yeast in his sinuses. The other drs had missed it bc they scoped him up the nose in office. The junk was in his maxillary sinuses! He was immediately put on the right anti-fungal and antibiotic and within 24 hours, I had a new kid! The dr felt strongly that he would be healed for life but cough returned A few months later. This time I was armed with the cause and was introduced to Threelac and Fivelac. Yall, this stuff is amazing. He has taken one of these powder packets of probiotics /bacterias daily for 2years with a low-added sugar diet and ta-da...miraculous results. These products seem like they help many issues. we added in inoculation powder for the winter too. by age 10 I just started backing off any maintenance to see if he is "normal". He is almost 12 and maintains a cough-less life with 2 packets of fivelac per week.

I'm looking for an ENT that could see me before I go out of town on Sunday. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good one that's accepting new patients??

Dr. Klug has wonderful nurse practitioners that can get you in quickly sometimes. They are excellent!
