It is a good idea to ask a contractor for his state license numbers. Plumbing, Electric, General contracting are all separate licenses. Also under the States consumer affairs laws act contracts over $500.00 must be writing with certain wording such as a 72 hour right of rescission and start finish dates. A general contrators licence does not give companies the right to perform Plumbing, Electrical or Heating and Ac work. Also proper insurance is a must, an uninsured worker who gets hurt on you job can sue you.
