Pediatrician Recommendation My family just moved here and we need a pediatrician for our 1 year old. We live in South Side but are willing to drive for a good doctor....

Dr. Mulreany at [Pediatric and Adolescent Health Partners](http://www.pahpartners.com/) takes care of my little one and is amazing. She's hard to book, though, but they have several doctors there that are also good. They have offices in Bon Air, Midlothian, and Powhatan. If it matters, I've had to deal with their billing office on some insurance hijinks (not their fault), and they are easy to work with.

We like Swift Creek Pediatrics on Woolridge across from the Midlo Family YMCA. Been using them for over 12 years now (I have three sons).

I’ve heard good things about Dr. Domer & Dr. Ayers at Commonwealth Pediatrics (near Chippenham Hospital).

Is Dr. Terry still in practice?

We see Dr. Melani DeSilva at RVA Pediatrics. They’re near Westchester Commons. My kids adore her. All of the doctors and nurse practitioners there are great, though. And one of their locations is always open on Saturdays.

Also look at KidMed for after hours/urgent card appointments. There a few locations around the Richmond metro area and they're really awesome. https://www.kidmedva.com

We love Monument Avenue Pediatrics. It's a smaller practice, which make it's nice when all of their staff greet our daughter by name. They are a great team of doctors and nurses, and only take parents who are vaccinating their children (unless medically the child can't be). They can also fit your child in that day if they get sick. They're also super helpful if you call and need a question answered.

We've been very happy with Monument Ave Pediatrics, right by Carytown.

Closest one to you. No reason to find one that is an hour away when there is one a block away. Having a sick kid sucks when you have to drive over an hour but could have done it in 5 minutes

We love West End Pediatrics. I believe they do not see unvaccinated kids but don’t quote me on it.

We go to the pediatric association at MCV (VCU). Great hospital, great doctors.
Looking for recommendation on a psychiatrist I don't think this violates any rules, since I'm not posting anything specifically personal.
So I am looking for a referral...

Check out Village Family Psychiatry. I've been going to their practice for almost 10 years, and I've had pretty good luck with them.

gaertnerpsych.com I see Nurse Practitioner Sue Duke. She caught a very serious side effect that my old psych doc (Dr. Rehan Saleem in Midlo) missed multiple times that was causing me agony for a while. Sue is an excellent diagnostician and she's very thorough.

The best solution for depression is a combination of talk therapy and medication (with change in eating habits, physical activity, and avoidance of triggers as tertiary positive changes yet very far down the effective scale from talk and pills).
Therefore, I would strongly suggest that you find a talk therapist (a psychologist or LCSW {Licenced Clinical Social Worker}) to beginning the process. These professionals ALWAYS have relationships with psychiatrists (who are medical doctor's who can prescribe drugs).
The upside is you can usually get in with a psychologist or LCSW FASTER than a shrink by yourself.
After meeting with the talk therapist, they can usually make a call and get you in front of the shrink THAT day or the next.
BOTTOM LINE: you are doing the right thing by seeking help.
I have probably been you you are now (a number of times) so PM me if you have questions about the process.

I am kind of in the same spot, my insurance lists seemingly hundreds of options and I don't know the difference between all of their abbreviations and certifications and it's pretty overwhelming. This thread helped a lot!

I've been going to Insight Physicians for a while. I don't know that I can say that I love it (some of the Dr. seem kinda dead inside) BUT, I just started seeing a new NP and shes pretty amazing. Meghan Rise. She actually seems to want to listen to you. Its like a mini therapy session and a psych visit combined. If she leaves I'm absolutely following her.
Danger-Moose replied:
Do you know that you need a psychiatrist? A psychologist and a regular doctor can often times work in conjunction with one another and provide the same level.of service faster and potentially cheaper. Unless you have some irregular and severe disorder you might want to start there first. The Westwood Group is a good practice and they have someone in most areas of specialty.

The search function will probably answer this better than I can, that being said, the 2016 issue of Richmond Magazine's [Top Docs](http://richmondmagazine.com/downloads/11879/download/Top%20Docs%202016-Reduced%20Size2.pdf?cb=50 ad9468 dc0 d59025 a0562 b84 a0 f1 b1 f) shows the 5 top rated Psychiatrists as voted on by their peers.
Good Morning,
My 14 year old daughter suffers from severe menstrual cramps along with nausea. Does anyone have any suggestions for any remedies other than birth control...
Jennie C. replied:
I dealt with a lot of the nausea part alot, I found Papaya Enzymes helped calmed my tummy. Otherwise moist heat, and walking helps. I hadn't heard that about soy from a comment above- ill have to check into that, very interesting. I support your decision to try and delay the pill. I remember them doing that to me at her age and it just made me an even more moody teenage girl..... No one wants that:). Sorry your girl is struggling hope she gets some relief!
Kerith R. replied:
Consider talking to a registered dietitian- I recommend Victoria Tate at American Family Fitness West End. She might be able to give you some ideas of foods/ supplements that have calming effects. She's also an avid tea enthusiast. And she really knows her stuff.
I am in need of recommendations for favorite GP women doctors, preferably native english-speaking...anyone have a doctor you love? I'll check the insurance &...

Dr. Amy McConnell at St. Mary's. (Assocoated Internists Group). She works with a group of doctors that are all awesome! I have been a patient for about 15 years. Easy to talk too, very analytical, and professional. Love her!
