Tattoo parlor/artist recommendations? I've gotten plenty of piercings over the years but I'm interested in finally getting a tattoo and just wanted recommendations. I'm...

I've only gone to one place and it was for my wife (I have nothing against tattoos, there just isn't a particular design I REALLY want on my skin for the rest of my life). But we went to Mos Eisley's. It was really clean and we liked the people. It seemed expensive to me (over $80 for a simple line drawing on my wife's ankle), but I don't know how much that stuff usually costs.

Thanks for the awesome suggestions!

A lot of my friends have really great pieces from Mos Eisleys. Shawn Shane and Eric are all good artists. If you don't mind a short drive out to the lakeshore Jeff and Jimmy at 51 Tattoo in Muskegon are both awesome artists too and it's where I get work done.

Really depends on what kind of a tattoo you want. Different artists specialize in different things. I've been to Laughing Gremlin and Love Tattoo. I preferred my experience at Love. The price was also more reasonable.

If you have a style in your head that you want, find an artist that lines up with it and go from there. Research the artists work either online, or in the shop and meet with the ones you like to check out their personality and the atmosphere of their chair. In my experience piercings go relatively quick, but ink takes a while. You'll want to be in a good environment with someone you can get along with for more than 20 minutes. People can be a bit territorial about what they think the "best shop" is, but it seems like there are plenty of decent artists and shops around. I have not heard anything bad about Magnum if you like going there for your piercings.

I got mine done by Joe T at Screaming Needle in Allendale, while I was going to Grand Valley. He did an excellent job on a line-heavy piece, and the prices weren't bad.
