[#97|+884|151] My wife has recently begun drinking bottled water because she doesn't like the taste of tap. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive divorce lawyer?...
RedMadeline replied:
Sure can. The name is Pur, Esq. He saved our marriage, and doesn't cost a whole lot, either. https://www.pur.com/water-filtration/water-filter-pitchers-and-dispensers/new-ultimate-7-cup-pitcher-led this is the one we have, and we keep it in the fridge so we have cold water. My husband is fine drinking tap, but I don't like how the tap water tastes in our area (it's really hard water), so I drink from this and it's great. Everything is recyclable, too. I highly recommend it.

Reverse osmosis to the rescue! Get a tap installed or start buying water cooler jugs.

We have a Culligan faucet mount filter that we bought off Amazon. It removes lead, which Brita doesn't, and we have an old house, so that was essential. We'd been through at least 5 Pur faucet mount fixtures, but they never lasted long before we'd have to throw the whole thing out. After that, we did a lot of searching for something dependable and affordable. The filter mount itself was around $20 and the filters are about $10. We've had the fixture several years with no problems. The filters last 2 months or 200 gallons. This filter was so worth it and has been very reliable.

And she likes the taste of plastic bottles? Ugh.
gregwont replied:
The water from our well tastes better than any tap water I've tried. Most bottled water tastes like the plastic bottle to me.

Dude, that's nothing. My girlfriend of 3 years made me take a HALF DAY OF VACATION to celebrate her birthday out of town. Broke up with her soon after that. Nobody takes me away from my office duties.
po_ta_to replied:
I used to use a water cooler, but I was too cheap to pay $5 each to have jugs delivered. Instead I would drive to a local spring every time I ran out and fill them myself.

We got a [berkey](http://www.berkeywater.com/). They're a couple hundred bucks, but when you factor it out, it works out to a few cents per gallon. We had alge bloom problems and my wife was getting sick. the berkey was the only reasonable thing we could find that she didn't get sick from.

Or maybe a tap mounted Brita system

Buy a filter and show her this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFKT4 jvN4OE My wife and I actually made up a taste test for one of her friends. Our unfiltered tap water won too.
dcz replied:
The problem with bottled water, is it's probably not any better than tap.
jeremyjava replied:
The Consumer Reports top rated two filter system from sears was only about 100 bucks when i got my first one about ten years ago. You mount it on your sink beside your faucet with its own spicket and the water tastes perfect even with sulfer tasting water. On mobile so a link is hard now but check out at sears web page.

Pretty sure divorce isn't frugal. The lawyer might be cheap but the judgement sure won't be.

5 gallon jug. The kind that goes in those water coolers. You can very easily add a spigot to it. Set it on a counter or table or something. Total cost is like $12-15 if you already have a drill and drill bits. It cost me $1.50 to fill one of these jugs. Might be cheaper in your area. Or you can get one of the jugs and you can get a pump that connects to the opening for like $8-10. Easier but you have to push the pump by hand... I personally went with getting a top loading water cooler thing. Walmart had a great deal. $66 for one that heats the water, cools it and does room temp. Works great. Like $170 normal price. Use it a ton because our tap water taste awful.

Move to the West Coast, better watersheds and catchment situations leads to tastier water.

How about compromising and getting the biggest brita that will fit your fridge? I have one that lies down on a shelf in the fridge.
CMDaddyPig replied:
Can you not buy a Brita (or similar generic filter)?

install an under sink filter. 30 bucks and you can get as aggressive a filter as you want. They are by far the cheapest option.

Llort2 replied:
Just separate and don't get divorsed, you both can coinhabit. Lawyers are expensive

I would agree with your wife. We only drink bottled water. Tap is for showers and toilets.

One blind taste test put my mother off of bottled water forever (just make sure they're both at the same temperature). If she fails the test but continues to insist on the bottles, then your lawyer is definitely the best bet in the long run.

Look up Colt Forewtyvive. Great lawyer.
pasttense replied:
Buy the water in gallon jugs (probably your supermarket private label brand); it's a lot cheaper than the little bottles.
azsxdcfvg replied:
have you tried doing a blind taste experiment with her? the more samples the better

None of the words used in your post are allowed in frugal. You could be banned.
dria replied:
Water straight out of the tap can taste weird, but we just fill a jug (no filters or any of that crap) and put it in the fridge. Gets nice and cold and the weird chemically tastes seem to dissipate pretty quickly. We just always have a juice pitcher of water in the fridge (bonus: we drink way way more water since we started doing this).
gijitkitty replied:
If you get a filter and she still doesn't like the taste, she can always infuse the water with mint or cucumber. It makes the water taste more refreshing.
pedide replied:
I don't know any lawyers but you might want to try refrigerating tap water it can make the taste better. If you don't mind being sneaky empty out a bottle of water, fill it with tap, refrigerate it and see if she notices.

If she's drinking Aquafina, she's just drinking bottled tap water. http://metro.co.uk/2015/10/28/pepsico-admits-its-aquafina-water-is-just-tap-water-5467530/
