Hi!@Anne L Ruple- my father was an oral surgeon (retired now) and actually I believe "Board Certified" means that an oral surgeon has graduated from an accredited dental school and then has completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program approved by the American Dental Association Commission in Dental Accreditation. They have far more extensive training in oral surgery than a dentist.
