You could always try asking in this group, some registered (and qualified) Family Day Care Educators will go to your home, you would be entitled to rebates then and the hourly rate would be lowere :) Just a thought anyhow.... https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1519705734954103

Hey, my company has a free app called Kindy (www.kindy.com.au) that lets you find and contact nearby pre-screened carers. you can download for iPhone or Anrdoid and post a job up - every carer in your area gets alerted with a notification to their phone and they can apply. A lot of the other mums in this group have registered and we've had great feedback! Hope this helps :)

If you're really stuck you could whip down the parkway and go with YMCA Holder at the top of Weston Creek. They are great and probably still have spaces as they only opened a month or two ago.

Don't do it. They were hopeless with their billing. We had to explain their accounts to Bec so she could fix the problem and then being oh so professional, she refused to speak to my husband. There were constant staff changes to rooms with no communication to parents. Sarah, the director, was unable to tell me the names of the staff members in our room. They would have dress up days on a Thursday/Friday which were only advertised via note in the foyer early that same week (so my son who went on Thursday/Friday missed out as I didn't go in just to check the notes). We often had to ask the staff to change my son's nappy when we went to pick him up as he'd done a poo and it had started drying in his nappy because it'd been there so long. Quite often the kids would have Vegemite sandwiches for lunch and a box of sultanas for afternoon tea because the cook was away - not on the menu plan and not what you would expect for $110/day. I spoke to Jo about these issues, spent over an hour with her, she promised she would address everything with the staff and thanked me for letting her know. Nothing ever changed. When we gave notice we were leaving, my son's name was taken off his pigeon hole immediately and for two weeks he had no allocated pigeon hole. The staff in the room told me one of the kids must have pulled it off, even though the staff had just shuffled the names around. When we left, we were given my son's portfolio, all of which had only been completed in the time since giving notice despite the centre being required to document learning and maintain portfolios in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework. I found the centre to be disorganised and unprofessional. Having attended a G8 centre in Qld, I was disgusted with this centre and their standards of care. Even more disappointing was the fact that my husband and I had defended G8 to NUMEROUS people. Didn't we end up looking stupid?!?

I found the Director of the centre can change the entire centre. This comment is so you know who to contact if there are serious problems with any centre. Our centre was brilliant, but then with a change of director my daughter (now 9 - back then had just moved to the toddlers room) was getting attacked by other kids. She had speech delay so couldn't tell us. But she constantly had bite marks up her arms and a casual staff member managed to tell us that we needed to report the centre to child services as the biting child was also attacking my daughter in other ways - the staff member had seen the child gouge my daughter's eyes - to the point where some staff members screamed. We were not notified of any of those incidents. So I did indeed report them - to Child Services in the ACT Govt. They looked into everything at length and ultimately decided that there had been a lack of communication but were happy with the centre - even AFTER my daughter broke her collarbone at the centre. A casual staff member ran to my husband - who had walked in within minutes of this happening - and said she'd had a fall. The trusted room leader who we'd known for years came up and said that was rubbish, she had not had a fall. As she had speech delay and used to cry when she had a cold (later found to be on the autism spectrum), we thought our daughter was crying due to a cold. It haunts me to this day (long story short - we lived in a contaminated house, we moved out, I detoxed her, now she's no longer on the spectrum and is doing great at regular school). So medical attention was delayed for a few days. She was such a brave girl - thank god she can no longer remember it. Anyhow, Child Services still said the centre had done nothing wrong and it was all a miscommunication. As you can understand, I was beside myself. Just over a year later I was still looking for someone else to tell this story to who could actually make sure it would never happen in a centre again. I finally found that the ACT Child Services (who we'd been complaining to) only assesses the equipment etc and processes in place in a centre - not individual complaints of harm! No-one ever told us this! I found the Commonwealth body that DOES look into these instances. I spoke to them and they said unfortunately it was too late, but looking at the info I gave them, they would have been VERY interested in helping me had I complained in time. They were also astonished that the Centre had not advised me of who I should complain to - as they are meant to do this. I can't remember the name of the Cth agency, but it wouldn't be too hard to track down. They were lovely. Also, for my 3 rd child we had a bad experience at another centre and then moved him for his last year and a half at childcare to the centre at Calvary Hospital. OMG best centre ever. He was advanced in his learning by the time he started Kindy.

We love Kinder Haven. We had a few small issues in the beginning but they were fixed very quickly and professionally! Bec and Jo in the front office are amazing and will accommodate all of.your requests and the carers really love the children.
Stacey S. replied:
My daughter is at Kinder Haven and she absolutely loves it! She has always come running up a happy girl and even when leaving her in the morning there she was happy to be around the ladies and gentlemen she was with. She really bonded with one of the girls and that lady became quite attached to mia while she was in the nursery. The lady cried when she saw mia take her first few steps. They have always provided mia with the equal amount of attention as to the other children and mia always got her naps and bottles. I couldn't recommend the centre high enough! Jo is amazing and all the other workers there are wonderful too! They treat both myself and Mia with the most wonderful manners and kindness. Mia has learnt a lot since starting care and the ladies are always trying to do new and educational projects with the children. I hardly ever hear any kids upset the kids are always giggling, smiling and being highly interacted with. I love Kinder Haven
