Spay incontinence is a well known side-effect of neutering and the risk increases the younger the dog is spayed. I just found this in my research files. It is a study on the effects of early neutering Golden Retrievers. Not everything will apply to small dogs, but quite a lot will. DOgs like dachshunds are prone to back / spine problems and early neutering might have a negative effect on that as well. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0055937
